Ever since high school, I knew that I wanted to be a healthcare provider but I wasn’t sure which direction I wanted to take. After some research, I decided that dentistry was my passion. I saw a world where I could balance my two priorities: my profession and my family life.
I began my studies at Hacettepe University in Turkey and upon earning my degree in 1994, I was officially the first female in my family to have had the privilege to be able to graduate college. Therefore, this was an amazing accomplishment for me.
Before I started my career, the chance to pursue the ‘American Dream’ arose. When I got to New York, I planned on learning English and retaining as much knowledge as possible to bring back to Turkey but something changed in me. I decided to stay to improve my quality of life and care for patients here... perhaps the ‘American Dream’ was actually tangible.
However, I couldn't grasp it just yet because I quickly learned that I had to re-enroll in dental school and start at square one. It was as if the years of grueling schoolwork back in Turkey were wiped right out! Nevertheless, I enrolled in New York University College of Dentistry in 1997 and earned my DDS degree in 2000. The following year, I completed a residency program at Columbia University.
Upon graduation, I worked for several offices to gain experience as to what it would be like to open up my own practice. In 2004, I opened my first office with a partner but then became a solo practitioner in 2012. From that point on, I worked very hard to establish myself. To this day, I am still very passionate, not only about my practice, but about providing the best quality of dental care to my patients whom I care deeply for. If I can make a difference in any of my patients’ lives, then the hard work has been worth it.
People ask me how I maintain my passion and determination. Well, my simple response is that it’s all about the patients. That is why I strive to continue my education by attending seminars and obtaining any additional information or new technology to keep growing.
Outside of the office, my time is dedicated to my family. My oldest daughter is currently in college and I couldn’t be more proud of her! My younger one is currently in elementary school and always keeps me on my toes! Also, my interests include cooking traditional Turkish meals, painting with watercolors, and interior designing.
